The Shard-2.jpg

The Shard

April 15, 2013

I left London 11 years ago this June.  I still find it incredible that such a time has passed and the city is so different. A lot of people are describing it (rather presumptuously, probably living there) as the unofficial World capital.  Certainly, I'll grant you it's changed a lot in the last ten years.  The skyline is one of the most obvious differences.  The Shard is probably marmite architecture, but I rather like it.  I think because it appeals to the part of my brain that likes grand, fantasy stuff like the Lord of the Rings or (more appropriately) Stephen King's Dark Tower series.  It's such a dramatic and implausible building that I can't help but appreciate it.
